Fast Marching Method for Shape from Shading under Perspective Projection
نویسندگان
چکیده
The fast marching method has recently been applied to the shape from shading problem for orthographic projection [4]. Unlike many previous researches, the method is stable and monotone, and offer a well posed solution to the shape from shading problem. In this paper, the method is extended to perspective projection using a model that accounts for the foreshortening effect of perspective projection. Experimental results on synthetic images are also reported. A simple and practical method is also presented which generates realistic synthetic testing images under perspective projection.

A fast marching formulation of perspective shape from shading under frontal illumination
An adaptation of the fast marching method to the perspective Shape from Shading under frontal illumination is proposed. A heuristic is proposed to handle occlusion. The method outperforms Tankus et al. [Tankus, A., Sochen, N., Yeshurun, Y., 2005. Shape-from-shading under perspective projection. Internat. J. Comput. Vision 63(1), 21–43] in both time and accuracy. Accurate methods for generating ...
متن کاملShape-from-Shading by Iterative Fast Marching for Vertical and Oblique Light Sources
Shape-from-Shading (SfS) is a fundamental problem in Computer Vision. Its goal is to solve the image irradiance equation. One prominent solution is the Fast Marching Method of Kimmel & Sethian. When the light source is oblique, Kimmel & Sethian proposed to rotate the image to the light source coordinate system and then solve an ‘almost’ Eikonal equation. This paper presents a new iterative vari...
متن کاملFast Marching Method for Generic Shape from Shading
We develop a fast numerical method to approximate the solutions of a wide class of equations associated to the Shape From Shading problem. Our method, which is based on the control theory and the interfaces propagation, is an extension of the “Fast Marching Method” (FMM) [30,25]. In particular our method extends the FMM to some equations for which the solution is not systematically decreasing a...
متن کاملA Differential Approach to Photometric Stereo with Perspective Viewing∗
Shape from Shading and Photometric Stereo are two fundamental problems in Computer Vision aimed at reconstructing surface depth given either a single image taken under a known light source or multiple images taken under different illuminations from the same viewing angle. Whereas the former uses partial differential equation (PDE) techniques to solve the image irradiance equation, the latter ca...
متن کاملGeneralised Perspective Shape from Shading in Spherical Coordinates
In the last four decades there has been enormous progress in Shape from Shading (SfS) with respect to both modelling and numerics. In particular approaches based on advanced model assumptions such as perspective cameras and non-Lambertian surfaces have become very popular. However, regarding the positioning of the light source, almost all recent approaches still follow the simplest geometric co...
